Today, the scale of the architectural profession has become a questioned situation, accompanied by newly defined problems. In the global context, the scale of architecture has expanded much more than the scale of the designed object. This scale needs to design new architectural approaches in the light of global warming, transportation, new public space definitions, and diversification of urban interventions. This situation carries the scale of architecture to urban scale.
Problematics about daily life in a global context are becoming visible in many historical environments. Architecture Master’s Programs with Thesis and Non-Thesis aim to identify current problems related to the city by making urban readings and research to produce up-to-date solutions for the city by using the data obtained at the end of these processes. Research topics of the Master’s Program with Thesis are city readings, urban memory, location, space, space comfort, city and housing, urban history, urban design, urban transformation and sustainable cities, Istanbul researches as a special interest area (Fener-Balat-Ayvansaray-Haliç-Coastal ) consists of subjects such as urban acupuncture and urban micro intervention.
The backbone of the master’s program without thesis is a research-based design studio that focuses on urban issues, aims to explore the above-mentioned concepts and develop solutions.
During these studies, it is planned that local governments and civil initiatives will actively contribute to the program. In addition, it is aimed to conduct conferences, workshops and field studies with academicians, institutions and groups that develop original relations in their fields by developing international relations.
