The purpose of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Cyprus Health and Social Sciences University is to train social workers who have the skills needed in social work areas, are open to development, have a vision and have the theoretical and applied knowledge infrastructure required by the service field. The increase in irregular nutrition, changes in social and economic structure and social factors increase the need for nutrition and dietetics. Despite the rapid increase in need, there is a need for specialist personnel who will provide nutrition and dietetic applications or interventions. In accordance with this information, training of nutrition and dietetic specialists with a theory and practice infrastructure will provide an advantage in meeting both social need and employment demand.
Within the scope of the program, determination of the nutritional status of the society; determining and evaluating problems and priorities; seeking, recommending and implementing solutions to improve the nutritional level of the country; identifying and directing food and nutrition plans and policies; food analysis, determination of nutritional requirements of different age groups will be examined. There is a need for staff who have a good command of nutrition concepts and theories and who can put their knowledge into practice in the fields of health, education and work, to ensure adequate and balanced nutrition awareness for the protection and development of health and treatment of diseases. At this point, it is necessary to employ qualified personnel for the support to be given to individuals who need nutritional health support in these areas.
Students who graduate from the program will receive the title of “Nutritionist” or “Nutrition and Dietetic Specialist”. The working areas of nutrition and dietetics specialists are quite wide. They can work in institutions such as medical centers, maternal and infant health centers, special care centers, special nutrition and consultancy centers, media organizations, food factories, international health institutions.
