New Arrangements In International Student Recruitment For Turkish Universities
New arrangements were made by the Turkish Higher Education Council to increase the number of international students coming from abroad and to facilitate the conditions for students to start university.
The measures taken to increase the number of students in international student procurement and to facilitate students to start universities are summarized as follows:
Turkey will be maintained as an attraction centre for foreign students.
Within the scope of the “Target Oriented Internationalization Project” initiated by the New HEC in recent years, the number of foreign / international students, which was 48 thousand five years ago, reached 180 thousand with an extraordinary increase.
YÖK has made new arrangements “for this year” to ensure that this success does not disappear after the epidemic and that Turkey continues to be a centre of attraction for foreign students.
New rights for late graduation status have been granted.
Due to the epidemic, some new opportunities were offered to international student candidates who want to study in Turkey due to the postponement of high school graduation exams to autumn, measures taken due to the late graduation and the epidemic.
- Candidates will be able to pre-register, and the application and registration process can be extended until December 15, 2020.
- Accelerated compensation training will be provided to those who register after starting education and training.
- Students who register late will be able to start their education in the spring term by freezing the registration in the fall semester.
- Students who have registered at the beginning of the education and training period but cannot come due to the measures taken in Turkey or in their own country will be able to be taught via distance learning with digital means until the 2020-2021 academic year.
International students were also allowed to enrol in postgraduate programs outside the clinical fields with a “School Recognition Certificate” which can be obtained from YÖK in one day.
With these regulations, our universities will be encouraged to enrol students from abroad during the global epidemic process, the state of being a centre of attraction for our higher education region will continue and our universities will be able to compete internationally.
Higher Education Virtual Fairs Will Be Held
The Higher Education Council has taken action to reduce the negative effects of the mobility restricted by the global epidemic and to ensure that Turkish higher education can be promoted in digital media abroad in this process.
In this context, preparations began for the “Higher Education Virtual Fairs”.
Universities will also cooperate with other relevant public institutions for Virtual fairs, which will be held in digital media in order to promote all higher education institutions in Turkey to international students on international platforms.
In this context, universities will enable foreign students to be in direct contact with their officials simultaneously by introducing their faculties, programs and all the opportunities they offer to students.
