About the University
Mersin University was established with the Law No. 3837 adopted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on 3 July 1992 and started its activities on 10 November 1992.
In the academic year of 1993-1994, Mersin University started its education by admitting students to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Fine Arts, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, School of Tourism and Hotel Management , Mersin Vocational School, Gülnar Vocational School, Mut Vocational School, Tarsus Vocational School and Institute of Science and Social Sciences which will carry out postgraduate programs.
Since its establishment, Mersin University has increased the number of its faculties to 16, the number of its colleges to 7, the number of its vocational schools to 11, the number of its institutes to 5, and the number of its research centers to 34.
Mersin Universities’ mission is; by using education and training within universal values with its highly qualified academic programs, it uses its knowledge and experience for the benefit of all humanity, modern, creative, positive and critical thinking, nature, sensitive, aware of the cultural values, depending on the basic principles of the Republic of Turkey founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, educating participants, productive and high-quality individuals who will represent their country all over the world, to contribute to the development and sustainable development in the regional and national arena by presenting what they produce with scientific studies and researches for the benefit of the society and to increase international congress organizing and participation.

Why Mersin University
- Aiming at total quality in education, training, research and practice, Mersin University has received TS EN ISO 9001: 2008 Quality Management System Certificate in both its academic and administrative units and has become one of the first universities in our country to have this certificate. Currently, our university holds ISO 9001: 2015 Quality Management System Certificate.
- Mersin University crowned its journey of quality, which it has been continuing since 2007, with the “EFQM Competence in Excellence 4 Stars” certificate issued by the European Foundation for Quality Management and became the first university to achieve 4 stars in its first application. The Competence in Excellence 4 Stars certificate, which is the second stage of EFQM’s Five-Stage European Journey to Excellence Program, is given to institutions that are successfully managed and progressing towards becoming an excellent institution.
- Mersin University, which was entitled to receive ECTS and DS labels in 2012, became one of the few universities in our country that received ECTS labels.
- The Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine have been accredited by the accreditation bodies related to their fields, thus the education program and quality have become equivalent to the education programs in Europe.
Many practices have been implemented in line with the interests, wishes and expectations of students, one of the most important stakeholders of our university. - Common Elective Course (OSD) program for second year students to improve themselves in areas of interest other than their own departments,
- Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center that supports students’ individual, social, educational and professional development at a high level and in a versatile manner,
- Peer Guidance Program where volunteer students help and support new students at our university
- Student Development Application and Research Center, which offers qualified solutions to students’ academic, professional, social and personal problems with a holistic, preventive and developmental approach,
- Student Communities that are related to the branches in which students study as well as their hobbies and encourage them to develop their personal talents.
