Higher Education in Turkey by Numbers

Higher education statistics for the period of January 2020 were published in the last issue of the Journal of Higher Education published by the Council of Higher Education.

According to the statement made by the Higher Education Council, number of higher education institutions in Turkey has reached 207 including 202 universities and 5 vocational colleges of higher education. It was also stated that the total number of 202 universities include 129 state and 73 foundation universities.

The total number of lecturers in higher education institutions in Turkey are 170 561. 144.809 of them work in state universities, while 25.752 work in the private foundation universities.

It was also stated that the number of students in higher education is 8,076,615, of which 7,445,530 continue to state universities and 619,793 to foundation universities.
