Why Housing Choice is so Important to International Students
International educators and recruiters have always known that housing has a huge impact on student mobility.
If something is wrong with a student’s accommodations it can affect every part of their experience of study abroad. On the other hand, if the student is happy with where he or she is living that can also be a tremendous foundation for a great experience overseas.
It is not surprising then that students are paying more and more attention to housing options. The research in this area tells us that the range and quality – not to mention price – of available options is a major factor in student decision making.
As a result, we are seeing a massive amount of investment in improved services and facilities for students, driven by both institutions and schools but also by large private development interests.
Student surveys on accommodation preferences put the emphasis on public transit access, cost, and safety in student decision making around housing.
