Cultural Studies, which was first formulated as a methodological basis for linguistic studies in England, soon became an important part of communication studies by finding active use within communication sciences. The theoretical and methodological possibilities of Cultural Studies have begun to be exploited especially in the analysis of media texts. Analysis of discourse developed in Cultural Studies is an important methodological basis for communication scholars. Many research and analysis techniques such as focus group studies and reception analysis developed in Cultural Studies, participatory observation techniques on the production processes of media contents and analysis of news production processes, ideology analysis, linguistics and semiotics studies, and so on have provided important advances for communication sciences. Cultural Studies, shaped within linguistic studies and developed within media and communication studies, have rich resources both for theoretical thinking and methodological perspectives. The main reason for this is that cultural studies utilize almost all fields of social sciences such as anthropology, literature, history, sociology, political science, philosophy, psychology as well as linguistics and communication sciences. Cultural Studies, which has become an area of attraction for communication scholars especially in popular cultural studies, continues its strong alliance with the media and communication sciences. Media and Cultural Studies Master Program is being conducted under two disciplines, Media Studies and Cultural Studies. Media Studies: The program focuses on theories, researches and applications related to mass media in the context of communication sciences. Within the scope of this science, students are taking empirical and theoretical lectures in communication and media subjects, conducting empirical and theoretical thesis studies. It is a suitable program for both media professionals and those wishing to pursue an academic career in various branches of the communication sciences, and those who have completed the master’s degree in this field of sciences can continue their PhD programs in all areas of communication. Cultural Studies: In addition to communication, Cultural Studies Master Program in the field of communication sciences is interdisipliner because of the connection with many other fields of social sciences such as linguistics, sociology, anthropology, history, political science, philosophy. This program provides a comprehensive postgraduate study of students with communication and culture-related courses and rich course content.
