About the University

Karabük University was founded in 2007. The University is located in an economically and strategically effective region in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey. Also, Karabük is a beautiful and peaceful city, two-thirds of which are covered with forests. At Karabük University, there are 14 faculties (Dentistry, Literature, Science, Fine Arts, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Theology, Communication, Business Administration, Architecture, Engineering, Forestry, Health Sciences, Technical Education, Technology, Medicine, and Tourism), 2 institutes (Graduate and Demir Çelik), 5 academies (Physical Education and Sports, State Conservatory, Health School, Civil Aviation School, School of Foreign Languages), and 9 vocational schools (including Vocational Schools of Justice and Social Sciences). Currently, there are approximately 50,000 students and 900 academic staff at Karabük University. With its 7,500 foreign students, Karabük University is among the universities with the highest number of foreign students in state universities in Turkey. Since hospitality is an important element of Turkish culture, it is a factor that makes the lives of foreign students in Turkey more efficient, more active, and happier.

According to the Asia University Rankings of Times Higher Education (THE), which is one of the world’s reputable rating agencies, Karabük University is in the 251-300 range among Asia’s best universities and 13th among the 34 universities included in the list from Turkey. According to the number of Turkish students selecting universities in Turkey, Karabük University ranked 7th and according to the registration of Turkish students, Karabük University ranked 8th. Karabük University is in the top 10 in both categories. Karabük University has internalized a quality culture and this fact is reflected by these data. In this context, the university has the culture of lifelong learning, contributes to the development of the region and the world, and conducts qualified education and research. The main purpose of Karabük University is to educate individuals who constantly learn and adopt human values.  

Karabük city is home to Turkey’s first integrated iron and steel plant which was founded 80 years ago. The factory makes a great contribution to Karabük University being a model in the university-industry cooperation. Additionally, the university attaches importance to R&D and infrastructure processes. Karabük University has 2 institutes, 15 research centres, and 2 research coordination centres where R&D activities are carried out.

Karabük offers unique natural wonders with forests, caves, canyons, trekking tracks, rivers, and the nearby Black Sea. Besides, Karabük is a cultural city with its historical houses and historical buildings.
