Siirt University was established in 2007. The foundations of Siirt University were laid in 1976. Siirt University aims to be a university that is in line with its vision and mission values, protects natural resources and historical heritage, maintains respect for the environment and people, attaches importance to the internationalization process, and contributes to society at local, regional, national and international levels.
Siirt University has 10 faculties, 3 colleges, 4 institutes, 6 vocational schools, and 19 research and application centers.
The university has a central research laboratory, Astroturf and football field, an indoor sports hall, 2 tennis courts, a fitness center, a basketball and volleyball court, and a guest house. There are 5 sports teams and 7 individual sports facilities at the university.
Siirt University offers a total of 140 programmes, including 43 bachelor, 41 associate degrees, 46 master, and 10 doctoral programmes. There is a total of 16,250 students at the university, 2260 of whom are international students.

As a university aiming to raise healthy social individuals, there are 38 student clubs, all of which were established with the initiatives of the students and whose activities are carried out by the students, accompanied by 1 academic advisor, for students to engage in cultural, artistic, scientific, sports, and social activities.
Free health services are provided to students with 1 family doctor, 2 general practitioners, 4 nurses, 1 psychologist, and 1 dietician within the Medico-Health Unit at the university.
