Application of subjective and objective hearing and balance tests, accepted to be necessary in the diagnosis of hearing and balance disorders and the working mechanisms and adaptation of cochlear implants make up the important part of the training of the Program of Audiometry. Also, the training of hearing-impaired children’s education occupies an important place in the training of audiometry technician in the program. This program is intended to train the audiometry technician who has the required test information and skills in the public and private health sectors’ fields of hearing and balance disorders. It also aims to provide the students with vocational skills and background as well as the skills of building oral communication, working in a group or team, realizing and solving the problems. The test methods applied at hospitals and one-month summer internship at the end of the 1st and 2nd year of the program allow our students to gain working experience before starting their working life after the school.
The purpose of the Program of Audiometry is to train the health staff with a vocational school education to establish the hearing disorders. The students who want to start the Program of Audiometry should know that they are in direct connection with the patient. Relationships with the patient bear a special quality and require a meticulous and patient approach. Audiology is a fresh and quickly-progressing branch of science, so it is necessary that those who will choose this occupation should have a high level of vocational performance and research ambition.
The graduates of the Program of Audiometry conduct audiometry as ‘audiometry technician’ and apply the definitive diagnosis tests under the supervision of an otolaryngologist and audiologist. They can work in the audiology clinics of the private or public hospitals under the supervision of an otolaryngologist and audiologist. They can apply hearing tests on the newly-born babies at obstetrics clinics and hearing screening tests at schools. Given that the need of hearing device and cochlear implant distributor firms and audiology diagnosis centres for audiometry technicians is on the increase, it seems obvious that our graduates have a wide range of employment fields in such private institutions, too.
